Our Fear Never Sleeps

Let go to fight for what's possible

We are excited to announce our new book is out now! In the book we share our journey with our son who was diagnosed with a life-threatening birth defect in utero. We learned so much along the way about ourselves and how we show up in our own lives in the face of uncertainty. We share that learning through the filter of our work as human performance coaches.

We celebrated our book launch in January 2020 at Surly Brewing Co. in Minneapolis and raised close to $10,000 for the Pain, Palliative and Integrative Medicine program at Children's Minnesota.

Our Children's Minnesota Story

Our son, Kieran, was diagnosed with a severe form of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) in utero. Our first obstetrician recommended we terminate the pregnancy given the severity of the diagnosis. Kieran was given a less than 25% chance of surviving and, if he did survive, we were told his life would be short and filled with many complications.

The team at Children's Minnesota had a different perspective. They agreed the diagnosis was severe but said "each life is an individual fight. We will do everything we can to help your child survive and thrive". We are delighted to say they succeeded in every way. Kieran is now a happy, healthy, vibrant 11 year old who loves life.

We are so grateful to each of the care providers at Children's Minnesota we interacted with. We are raising money for the Pediatric Pain, Palliative Integrative Medicine Program which was critical to helping our son thrive. We are inspired by their deep commitment to continued learning, integrated medicine, and innovation to support each and every individual child.

Profits from any book order through February 29th, 2020 will be donated to Children's Minnesota. You can also donate to Children's directly. Any amount makes a difference!

Book Reviews:

“As a parent I found this book compelling at every turn of the page.  As a pediatrician, I recognized that any physician caring for children could benefit from reading this honest and raw story of hope and doubt from parents who found themselves in a situation with so much uncertainty.  We can never fully understand the powerful backstories of all the beautiful children for whom we provide care.  Through their experiences, Erik and Moira provide a framework and checkpoints helpful for any parent trying to be the best person they can be while creating an environment in which their child can thrive.”

-Paul Melchert, MD, Pediatric Hospitalist

“When a book challenges your mind or creates a gut reaction it is a compelling one that we seek to read. When a book challenges your life, your beliefs, and your attitude, potentially for good, then it is something different: it is a singular opportunity for real and sustainable growth, that can’t be missed. This story does all of that. Therefore, I call it a blessing! Moira and Erik crafted a real gift in these pages. It is the promise of unleashing unimaginable potential, even when the odds might not look favorable. They give hope, a way, and tools to make them real.”

-Dr. Gaia Marchisio, Executive Director, Cox Family Enterprise Center, Kennesaw State University

"Wow.  Fantastic.  This is a powerful deeply personal story relatable to anyone, introducing tools to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.  The value of being vulnerable in front of peers, family and friends teaching us lessons about trust, choice and being present and intentional.  The story brings these tools to life to learn to let go, breakthrough and move forward towards what you say you care about most."
